A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Cosmic Interlopers is a clone of a certain seminal shmup from the late 70s. 11 files of 5 aliens each are coming in to land; you can't hope to stop them all, but at least each wave lets you increase your score. To what end? Some genre conventions are sacred. Don't try to understand.

Let's do be honest, you've played this before. Maybe you can find some atavistic fun anyway.

Featuring:

  • Particles, sometimes
  • Four whole alien designs (they all do the same thing)
  • Four different projectiles (they all do the same thing)
  • Absolutely NO ARGs - it's exactly as it appears to be
  • Minimalist sound effects somewhere between a PC speaker and strumming a clothesline with your teeth
  • No consistency or difficulty curve whatsoever; each wave is randomized
  • Absolutely no progression systems or plot. Get in, make the number climb, eventually explode
  • A not-quite-secret extra way to score
  • Destructible terrain
  • 5-10 minutes of Content™
  • No hope of success
  • Probably still less difficulty than there ought to be

Known Issues:

  • Some/most particles may be absent when running on integrated graphics, or on weaker machines.
  • The aliens may not want to descend on some passes. They'll figure it out eventually.
